‘Marty’ Cantu Facing DWI Charges
KRGV-TV broke the story Monday morning — Hidalgo County Constable Martin “Marty” Cantu, Precinct 2, is facing a DWI charge after he crashed his vehicle early Saturday morning between the hours of 2 and 3 a.m. approximately 15 miles outside Alice.
This, according to a DPS spokesman, Sgt. Rob Mallory, based out of the Corpus Christi district office.
From the KRGV.com story, written by Sarah Cervera, published Monday afternoon:
“Cantu was taken to Christus Spohn Shoreline in Corpus Christi. His condition is unknown, but he did suffer an injury to the face, according to Mallory. The case has been passed to the Duval County district attorney.”
According to a source contacted by this newspaper Monday afternoon, Cantu has since been released from the hospital and is already back home despite the rollover crash.
Cantu was first sworn into office Jan. 1, 2013.
A 1989 graduate of PSJA High, Martin “Marty” Cantu served four years in the Marines before starting his career in law enforcement and private security.
