Democrat Senators and U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar did the right thing

To the shame of the national Democrat Party, my opinion, the seven Democrat U.S. Senators and one Independent who sided with the GOP to reopen the federal government are now getting blasted by top-tier Democrats like Calif. Gov. Gavin Newson and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker for “caving.”

Pritzker, speaking in Chicago, said he didn’t appreciate Democrats caving in and doing basically what “the Trump administration wants.”

Easy to say there, big fellow. You’re not the one going hungry. Nor are your kids or grandkids, now are they.

In the case of Newsom and Pritzker and so many other Democrats like them, “not caving” means keeping the federal government shut down until the Republicans agree to continue funding Affordable Care subsidies when they run out at the end of December (2025).

That would mean, uh, never reopen.

Money for War

Does any of them actually think that Donald Trump would ever cave to hunger? People in need? The same guy who had a party at Mar-a-Lago two weeks ago, where some of the most expensive seafood – Stone Crab Claws/$50 to $80 per pound -- was served to well-heeled guests. The name of the party was titled “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody,” a reference to a song from the soundtrack of the 2013 “Great Gatsby” movie adaptation.

It’s a story about money, materialism, and the corrosive effects of greed on the American Dream, so either the irony escaped somebody, or the more likely scenario, no one cares that it comes at a bad time – people worried about going hungry, people losing their jobs.

“No big deal. They’re all illegals. Deport them. Quick, there’s a plumber’s helper getting away by Home Deport. He’s got a wrench. Grab him.”

Actually, people in this country illegally can’t get access to SNAP. If their kids are born here, they get access to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) monies, but what are we supposed to do? Let them do without because their parents are undocumented?

The clueless Democrats who believe that Trump and his MAGA soldiers in the U.S. House and Senate would ever cave because, oh, too many kids are going hungry, or, you know, the skies need to be reopened again because we’re losing air traffic controllers left and right, are clearly delusional.

Save the seven Dems and one Independent in the Senate (Masto, Durbin, Fetterman, Hassan, Kaine, King, Rosen, and Shaheen -- and the six in the House, including our own Henry Cuellar…applause, applause), the rest apparently just don’t care if people go hungry.

Old Gavin looks well fed. Not to mention, the busiest travel holiday of the year is coming up, Thanksgiving, and apparently the vast majority of Democrats don’t care that there aren’t enough air traffic controllers to keep the travelers moving on schedule.

“Let them sleep inside the terminal. They’ll get to their destination eventually. If it’s Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, can’t be helped.”

Yeah, right. The Republicans aren’t going to cave either on extending subsidies (Enhanced Premium Tax Credits) for the people currently getting it under the Affordable Care Act. If their health insurance premiums go up 200 percent, 400 percent, hey, we need the money to go bomb Venezuela or send $40 billion to Argentina. Shoot more drug boats out of the water. Screw that due process stuff.

“There’s another speed boat. Blow it up.”

I say good for the Democrats, the one lone Independent, and six Democrat House members who crossed the aisle to vote to reopen the government.

In my opinion, those are the only true heroes to this disgusting piece of American history. Which ended up being the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history, 43 days from Oct. 1 to Nov. 12.

Good job. Meanwhile, construction of the big beautiful ball room at the White House continues unabated.

And those private deep pockets funding the construction. No, of course they expect nothing in return.
