Tough tests: Vaqueros suffer losses at home, on the road

Coming off a solid win against the Texas State Bobcats on the road — a first in 15 years, the UTRGV Women’s basketball team had back to back games against two in-state squads.

The first being against the Houston Cougars and the second against the No. 10 Texas Christian Horned Frogs.

The first game, on Thursday in Edinburg, UTRGV saw themselves against the ropes as they found themselves down by 14 at the end of the first half — allowing the Cougars 22 in each quar ter.

The deficit was cut down to a tie at one point, in which Houston’s Jade Jones threw up a layup that netted the game for the Cougars. UTRGV’s Charlotte O’Keefe and Jalayah Ingram had 20 and 16, respectively.

In the away game on Sunday against TCU, the Vaqueros had a tough time getting anything going as they fell, 93-57 against a nationally ranked team.

TCU, who is on a five game winning streak, had a decisive win against nationally ranked North Carolina State on Nov. 16. They are 5-0 on the season, while UTRGV now stands at 3-3.
