RGV Vipers drop home game against Osceola Magic; get redemption

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (3-5) dropped a home game on Saturday against the Osceola Magic (6-2) here by the score of 134-125.

The Vipers saw themselves in a deficit early at the end of the first quarter as the Magic led 38-32 after 12 minutes of play. The squad from Florida then exploded in the second quarter by putting up a whopping 42 points to lead the half, 80-55.

The home team did see some spark in them in the second half as they outscored the magic by 5 points in the third and by 11 in the fourth, but the deficit proved to be far too heavy for the Vipers.

Daishen Nix — who has showed time and time again to be one of the more prominent scoreres for the RGV squad, led the offensive effort with 26 points off of 9-15 shooting. He had a double-double on the night with 11 rebounds and 7 assists.

There were three other Vipers who joined Nix who had at least 20 points.

Isaiah Crawford had 23 points of his own, Kevon Harris had 24, while Tyrese Hunter — who came up off the bench — had 26 of his own.

The Magic, although they had 20 turnovers, did outrebound the Vipers 48 to 42. They also shot 49% for the night, compared to RGV’s 47%.

Lester Quinones had 31 points on the night with 5 rebounds and Jamal Cain had 30 points with 13 rebounds to lead the Magic to the dub.

The Vipers, however, did get their payback on Monday with a win of 113-108.

Nix showed a little magic of his own with 27 points. He was accompanied by Kevon Harris' 17 to help seal the in.
