Women’s basketball drops road game against Lamar
The UTRGV Women’s team started its Southland Conference play this week as they traveled to Beaumont to take on Lamar University.
The Vaqueros were looking to get over the .500 hurdle as they stand at 3-3 on the season. Similar to the men’s team, UTRGV has seen their fair share of struggles whenever they travel on the road as the team is currently 1-2 in away games.
The women’s team is undergoing a three-game losing stream as they fell 67-59 to the Cardinals.
Lamar had a tough time missing on the night as they went 40% from the field. To add a little salt to the wound, they shot 43% from the arc.
UTRGV was off and on for their offense, only shooting 32% from the field. Chazlyn Dettor and Jalayah Ingram tried to carry the team with 17 points apiece.
The past two contests for the Vaqueros were against the Houston Cougars at home, which they lost at the buzzer 65-63 and an away game against nationally ranked No. 10 TCU by the score of 93-57.
The last time these two teams faced off was back in February, in which UTRGV took the win 58-56. In that game, then freshman — Kayla Lorenz — knocked down a three pointer to seal the deal. Lorenz had 10 points in this game.
