Pharr Community Theater set to present ‘A Tejano Christmas Carol’

PHARR — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at this local theater in town.

The Pharr Community Theater has been hard at work day in and day out in anticipation for their holiday-oriented play, “A Tejano Christmas Carol.”

Although inspired and adapted by Charles Dickens’ famous play, this rendition will be tailored for the local community.

More so, it will take place in the Rio Grande Valley. It will also be in Spanish.

The plays will run until Dec. 19 — with the first performance scheduled for this Wednesday.

The play is heralded by PCT Director Pedro Garcia, who has more than 20 years of theater experience under his belt. The cast consists of 20 members from the area, to help put on not only an entertaining but authentic show.

Garcia will be this play’s rendition of Ebenezer Scrooge by tackling the role of Ezequiel Codos — a greedy lawyer and water broker whose intentions jeopardize the community’s future on multiple levels.

Other members of the play are local as well — members travel from Harlingen, La Joya and more for these performances.

The director said that the team wanted this particular version of “A Christmas Carol” to resonate with the audience and local community.

“We wanted this version to speak directly to our community,” Garcia stated. “The presence of La Rielera and Selena connects the play to our roots and our identity.

“And by setting the story against the backdrop of the Rio Grande, we invite reflection on the future we share.”

Times and Locations of performances

From Dec. 10-13, the plays will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Pharr Community Theater — located at 213 W. Park Ave.

On Sunday, the play will be at 3 p.m. at the PCT.

However, there will be a change of scenery on Dec. 1819 as the crew will perform at the DRC Center, which is located at 850 W. Dicker Road in Pharr. The performances will be at 7:30 p.m.

How much does it cost?
