No, 2 Longhorns let it fly against Vaqueros

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley hosted the #2 nationally ranked UT Austin Longhorns last Wednesday at the Bert Ogden Arena. The Longhorns took the win, 110-45.

The Longhorns’ Madison Booker had herself a night with a triple-double by recording 28 points, along with 10 assist and 10 rebounds. Booker is the fifth player in Texas women’s basketball history to record a triple-double.

For the Vaqueros, Jalayah Ingram led the team in points with 13 of her own. She was accompanied by Kayla Lorenz and Gianna Angiolet who both had 12 points.

As one of the top teams in the country, UTRGV had their hands full as the Longhorns shot 56% on the night. The team from Austin also outrebounded the Vaqueros 47 to 32.

The defensive effort by the Longhorns was known quick as they held the Vaqueros to 20 points in the first half.

UT has one of the more difficult schedules this season as they’ve knocked down powerhouses, such as UCLA, North Carolina, and most recently, Baylor. All whom are nationally ranked squads.

For the Vaqueros, the loss drops them to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The team was set to battle the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks in Nacogdoches for a Southland Conference game on Monday, in which they took the win, 87-85.

The Vaqueros traveled to California for the Malibu Classic tournament, in which they lost the first game 82-60 to the North Dakota State Bison.
