Repeat sex offender sentenced to 55 years

28-year-old had previous conviction, violent history

A 28-year-old from Alamo will be serving the next 55 years in prison after being sentenced last Wednesday.

Michael Nathaniel Hernandez Contreras pleaded guilty to five criminal cases which involved aggravated sexual assault, family violence, and failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements. According to a release from Hidalgo County, the incidents were investigated by multiple law agencies in the county. Contreras had remained at large for months before being located and arrested last July.

The county release said that he was sentenced to 55 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for an aggravated sexual assault that occurred on July 30, 2024. In which an investigation revealed he used force to sexually assault a woman he had met through a social media platform.

More so, Contreras also committed sexual assault on Sept. 17, 2022, according to the release. In that incident, he forced himself onto the victim in a parking lot and “threatened to kill” the victim. At the time, Mission Police Department officers responded and stopped the attack.

Contreras, according to the release, was sentenced for the assault of a pregnant woman back in Feb. 26 of last year.

McAllen Police investigated and determined that Contreras struck the woman — who was his girlfriend — multiple times in the torso, as well as the face while transporting her to work.

In addition, Contreras had continuous violence incidents against a family member last February.

Back in 2017, the release said that Contreras has a previous conviction for sexual assault of a child. The county said that after completing his sentence, he failed to report and used a false address for registration purposes.
