Political Climate: Where has our yard guy gone?

ICE remains a hot topic in country

Why more people in the RGV aren’t outraged over the actions of ICE, I have no idea.

Despite the deteriorating economy, the cost of the insane Iran War and crazy tariffs that have driven up consumer costs, they still love President Donald Trump and his army of deranged sycophants in government.

I’m not a fan of most Democrats either, but compared to what today’s GOP is doing, anything the Dems have ever done pales in comparison.

I’d take an army of trans people any day led by Monica Lewinsky compared to the likes of Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, all Trump sycophants, who don’t even question the war.

An ICE Special Response Team patch is seen Dec. 11, 2025.

“Let’s bury our collective heads in the sand and say nothing.”

In particular, for this column, I’m talking about the detainment of good people whose only crime is being in this country without proper documentation.

Many came over here as kids, never had the chance to become naturalized, and so now, thanks to ICE and the Trump administration, they’ve been taken into custody and carted off to who knows where.

Twisted Border Czar

After the start of the Iran war, Feb. 28, their stories have largely disappeared from the news feeds along with the Jeffrey Epstein “pedo” story.

Over the weekend, our so-called border czar, Tom Homan, went on state regime media, AKA, Fox News, and said that based on his estimates, approximately 60 percent of the people taken into ICE custody have criminal records.

The other approximate 40 percent are non-criminal migrants targeted for living in this country “illegally.”

For Homan, he calls this a “good percentage.” (Source: Fox News.)

What he failed to say is that the 60 percent includes people cited in the past for a traffic ticket, being busted for smoking a joint back in high school, and includes people with pending charges as opposed to a criminal conviction.

Serious crimes. This coming from the guy who still can’t explain the $50,000 he allegedly took as part of a pay-for-play plan shortly after Trump was elected to his second term in 2024.

According to MSNBC and the New York Times, in September 2024, Homan was recorded in an undercover FBI operation accepting a bag containing $50,000 in cash from agents posing as business executives seeking government contracts.

I look at that and ask myself, why is former Hidalgo County Commissioner A.C. Cuellar still in federal prison?

Big surprise, after Trump was sworn into office, his new DOJ dropped the fed investigation against Tom, the shaved-headed lug with heavy jowls who likes to talk tough.

By the way, Homan never said he didn’t take the $50K, but only that he “did nothing criminal.”

Big difference, G-man. Obviously, you know how to parse your words, courtesy of some lawyer who has schooled you in legal parlance.

But I digress. Back to our yard guy, David. A great guy as are so many blue-collar men and women who have worked the hard jobs in the RGV for years, only now to have been disappeared by our own government.

I know, it’s like living in North Korea, but in Trump Land, this is called “winning.”

Back when our yard guy was still around, I talked to him about the ICE situation, while not outright asking him about his legal status. Obviously, he was concerned that ICE was picking up hard-working people like him for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

So many had come over here as kids from Mexico, he said. They were never given a chance to gain legal status in the U.S., and now our yard guy, too, is gone, so I guess I know now what his legal status must have been.

Poof. Gone overnight, just like so many other decent people in the RGV working as motel maids, construction workers, roofers, house maids, who have contributed more to society than almost any elected official now holding office in D.C.

Am I pissed off? Damn right. Why more people are not upset over this ICE insanity is beyond me.

“USA, USA, USA.” Sure, and look at what we have become, devoid of empathy and sympathy for the working poor.

Disgusting.
