Sharyland makes it to the state finals

Set to play in championship game on Friday

The Sharyland Rattlers are officially in the state championship after sweeping Kingwood Park, 2-0, in a three-game series during the Conference 5A DII semifinals. Now, the Rattlers will face the Lovejoy Leopards on Friday for the state championship.

The game will be at Dell Diamond up in Round Rock. The Leopards advance to the state title game after defeating the Argyle Eagles, two games to one, in their semifinals contest.

The game is slated to start at 7 p.m. Compared to a three-game series, it will just be one game to determine who is the state champion.

Sharyland is now embedded in the history books for the region as they are now the fifth baseball team to ever make the state championship game.

The last team that made it to the state title game for baseball was Harlingen South back in 2007 — who lost to Cy-Fair, 6-1.

Prior to that, the Tigers out of Mercedes made it in 1986 and then back in 1974. The first team to ever make it to the state championship was Brownsville High in 1965, according to local news outlets.
