Former ECISD teacher, coach charged with inappropriate relationship with student
EDINBURG — A former Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District employee turned themselves into the authorities Wednesday after allegations involving an inappropriate relationship between an educator and a student.
Christian Roxburgh, a former Edinburg High School teacher and coach, turned himself into school district custody and was arraigned later that afternoon by JP Pct. 4 Judge Andre Maldonado.
According to Hidalgo County jail records, his bond was set at $25,000. Roxburgh made bond that same day.
"Upon learning of the allegations, Edinburg CISD immediately took action consistent with district policy and state law," the district said in a release. "Because this matter involves a former student and is an active investigation, the district is limited in what information it can release. To protect student privacy and comply with federal law the district will not provide any information that could identify the student."
Roxburgh has since been taking off the high school's website as of Thursday. Prior to his removal from the site, he was a teacher and also coached freshman football as a defensive coordinator.
"We recognize that this news may be concerning to students, families, staff and community members," the district said. "Counseling and support resources will be made available as needed."
