July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

July is “National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month,” and for those of us who have lost friends, family to suicide, it’s a stark reminder that mental health is every bit as important as physical health.“Suicide” itself isn’t considered a “mental illness,” but it is often linked to mental health conditions, and most individuals who die by suicide have an underlying, often undiagnosed, mental disorder— most commonly depression, bipolar disorder, or substance use issues. (Source: PubMed Central.)It’s also tough on a family to tell people that their loved one is dealing with a mental illness as opposed to a physical malady.
