Hidalgo County Elections Department seeks poll workers for general election

EDINBURG — The Hidalgo County Elections Department announced Monday that it is looking to hire poll workers to assist in the Nov. 3 General Election.

Hidalgo County Elections Administrator, Hilda Salinas, said that a total of 900 workers are needed in order for operations to run smoothly.

To apply, there are few requirements that are needed to be fulfilled before submitting an application.

Here are the requirements, as per the department:

• Be a registered voter of Hidalgo County.

• Complete an online Poll Worker Training Session for each election.

• Be prepared to work on Election Day, Nov. 3, 2026, from 5:45 a.m. to approximately 9 p.m.

• Be non-partisan and neutral when working an election.

How do you submit an application?

In order to submit an application, you must visit www.hidalgocounty. us/elections to download the application.

Then, you have a few ways to submit the application to the county department.

You can:

• Email it to elections@co. hidalgo.tx.us

• Fax it to (956) 393-2039

• Mail it to the Hidalgo County Elections Department at P.O. Box 659 in Edinburg, TX 78539

• Or if you’re in town or close by, you can drop it off in person at 2015 W. Jackson Creek Ave. in Edinburg.

But does it pay?

In the release, the county department said that there was a new pay increase for poll workers to compensate their efforts.

• For judges, it is $19 per hour

• For alternate judges, it is $17 per hour

• For Clerks, it is $15 per hour “ We encourage residents to apply and become a part of the electoral process,” Salinas said in a release.
