UTRGV football games to be available on radio stations

EDINBURG — The UTRGV football season is set to start in 10 days as the Vaqueros will host UT Permian Basin in Edinburg at the Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium.

The athletics program over at the university announced Thursday the UTRGV football games will be broadcast in the Rio Grande Valley, as well as Laredo.

As part of a partnership with Radio United, the games will be broadcast on Ultra 90.1 FM and Pure Country 95.7 FM — where they will be in English. According to the department, all games will be broadcast.

If you prefer the games to be broadcast in Spanish, then listeners can tune into KYWW 1530 AM Puro Tejano and KGBT-FM 98.5 La Preferida. However, only the home games will be broadcast, not the away games.

Pre-game coverage will begin 30 minutes prior to kickoff. If you have the Radio Para Mi App, you can tune into the games with its designated section within the application.

As for the geographic range for the stations, people in the Valley will have the ability to check in on the games, particularly with Ultra 90.1 FM.

“The station has a coverage map that blankets the Rio Grande Valley in three counties, extending as far west as La Grulla, as far east as Brownsville and South Padre Island, north of Raymondville and Linn, getting as far north as Rudolph, and as far south as San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico,” the department said in a release.

Joe Bowling will be providing the play-by-play during the games. He will be accompanied by Jonathan Medina. It is their second season as the English Radio announcers for the football team.

KYWW reaches across the entire Valley as well for Spanish listeners. KGBT-FM 98.5 also reaches from Edinburg to Roma, as well as northern Mexico.

Pedro Leija will provide the playby- play and he will be accompanied by Nicolás Quintero for the color commentary.

Do you prefer to watch the games?

If you don’t care to listen to the games and would rather watch them at home, then you can. However, you will be need an ESPN+ subscription.

The athletics department announced that all the UTRGV home games will be found on the platform. More so, the university’s two non-conference road games — which will be against the University of Texas San Antonio and Central Arkansas — are also set to have their own broadcasts.

For the commentators, they will be Mark May, Aaron Saenz and Jaeda Rael. They return for their second season as part of the university’s home broadcast crew.
