RGV Vipers set to host tryouts on Saturday
EDINBURG — The Rio Grande Valley Vipers recently announced that the organization will host open tryouts ahead of the 2026-27 season — which is also the 20th in organization history.
The tryout is set for Edinburg at the DHR Health Sports & Wellness Center on Saturday.
The team encourages aspiring participants to bring their “game” and skills to see if they can earn future opportunities.
“The open tryout provides aspiring players with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in front of the Vipers coaching staff and general manager,” the Vipers said in a release. “Participants will compete for an opportunity to receive an invitation to the team’s training camp and potentially earn an NBA G League contract.”
If you’re interested in trying out this Saturday, there’s some materials that are required for you to bring before you can try out.
In the same release, the Vipers ask for players attending the tryout to bring physical copies of the registration form. The form can be found at www.rgv vipers.com. The form, according to the release, must be completed as well.
The players are also required to bring a release and eligibility form, as well as a medical consent form. Just like the registration form, you can find the documents online at www.rgvvipers.com.
When you visit the website, if you take a look at the top right corner of the main page, you’ll see a tab that reads “2026 Tryout Forms.”
Upon clicking it, you will be redirected to the forms that you need to try out for the team.
Aside from the forms, there will also be a $150 registration fee to even have the chance to try out.
“The registration fee ($150) must be paid upon arrival at the facility on the day of the tryout,” the organization said in a release.
The accepted forms of payment for the tryout are cash, cashier’s check/money order made payable to Vipers Basketball LLC. The fee is non-refundable.
The DHR Health Sports & Wellness Center is located at 315 Mark S. Peña Drive in Edinburg. It’s the facility that is directly across the football stadium in the city.
