UTRGV snaps road woes with win over Central Ark.

It wasn’t pretty to say the least but the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley snapped their road-game woes this past weekend. In an overtime thriller, UTRGV finally won a road game as they defeated the University of Central Arkansas, 30-27, on Saturday.

The last time the Vaqueros won a road game was last year on Nov. 15 against McNeese State.

UTRGV improves to 4-4 on the year and their conference record stays at 2-3 despite the win since UCA isn’t in the Southland Conference but rather the United Athletic Conference.

It was a back-and-forth matter as if one team scored, then the other was sure to respond. On the first drive, the Vaqueros looked to be somewhat comfortable on the gray-andpurple striped field as they were able to score off a Garret Rangel scramble. Rangel, who hasn’t played since Sept. 19 due to an injury got the start and threw 24-for-35 with one touchdown and one interception.

Down by three in overtime, Broderick Taylor on the first play of the drive ran 25 yards for the score to get UTRGV the win.

The Vaqueros will now be back in town to host nationally ranked Lamar University (#16) on Halloween in Edinburg at the Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium.
