DEBRA SHOBE

Debra Shobe (Debby/ "Shobie-do") passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, July 3, 2022, a few months before her 70th birthday. After persevering with dogged determination through a number of health problems including COPD and Parkinson’s Disease, she succumbed to a heart attack.

Her parents, Milo & Dorothy Shobe, predeceased her. She is survived by her sister, Tami Baker & husband, Richard Baker; 2 nephews and a niece and their children: Dean Baker -wife, Kris, children Megan, Madi, and Mia; Dawn Cleaves — husband, Gardiner, children Liz & Kate; Ken Baker — wife Anna, children, Dorothy & Matteo. All will miss her presence at family dinners and game times.

She enjoyed many pleasures and adventures growing up in the Rio Grande Valley, among them going to the beach, riding bicycles along the canals with friends, water skiing, and rescuing kittens she found. She graduated from PSJA where she played clarinet in band, was a twirler in Jr. High, and was a member of several academic clubs.

Debby was proud to be a Registered Nurse having earned a BS in Nursing from the University of Texas, Austin. Nursing had been a passion since childhood and she was active in central Texas AORN (Association of periOperative Registered Nurses).

Debby expressed her artistic side by earning a degree in Interior Design from The University of Texas, Austin, remodeling her homes, creating detailed “stuffed” dolls, designing and making her dresses she wore for competitive ballroom dancing, and growing orchids. She loved to travel, loved her cat families, was a fan of Dr. Who, and could easily get lost in a good crime/ adventure or science fiction book or movie.

Per her wishes, Debby’s body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at her home July 16th. Instead of flowers, please make donations in Debby’s name to Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, 1855 SE Inner Loop, Georgetown, Tx. 78626 (pets.wilco.org) or Central Texas AORN (ctaorn. nursingnetwork.com).

The family expresses their gratitude to Debby’s friends Elizabeth and Gwendolyn who attempted to revive her and were there as EMS arrived. We are also grateful for the efforts of the EMS personnel and for the doctors and nurses at St. David’s North Austin who kept family informed and supported us.
