DIEGO GARZA

McALLEN – Diego Garza, 71, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, December 21, 2020, in McAllen, Texas.

Diego was born on April 2, 1949 in Peñitas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose M. Garza and Eva C. Garza; his sister, Odilia G. Ochoa; and brother, Jose M. Garza Jr.

Diego is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Sara E. Garza; his daughters Vanessa M. Garza and Valerie A. Garza (Mike Menchaca); a son, Diego Garza Jr. He was a doting grandfather to his four grandchildren: Jared Gavin Karr, Natalie Jolie Menchaca, Jenessa Vanáe Reyna, and Lauryn Danielle Menchaca. Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters, Yolanda Guerrero and Telca Porras; his brothers, Jose G. (Imelda) Garza, Mario (Ninfa) Garza, Homer (Elva) Garza, and Hector “Eddie”(-Gloria) Garza; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Diego graduated from La Joya High School in 1968 and then went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the Vietnam War. He graduated from Pan-American University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He married his high school sweetheart, Sara, in 1972. They enjoyed traveling and spending all of their time with their family. He was the hard-working and dedicated owner of Pacer Printing Center in Pharr, Texas. Diego was the life of the party and is beloved by all of his many family members and friends. His smile would light up the room, and his boisterous laugh and jokes would make everyone around him feel at home. He will be missed dearly by all of those who loved him.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Sunday, December 27, 2020, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 11 a.m. Monday, December 28, 2020, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Military honors were conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Interment followed at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Homer Garza Jr., Carlo Garza, Joel Jerry Porras, Johnn Valente Alaniz, Jack Alaniz, Arnoldo Villarreal Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Diego Garza Jr., Jared Gavin Karr, Mike Menchaca, George Aguilar, Robert Zamora, Mike Pruneda, Jose G. Garza, Mario Garza, Homer Garza, and Eddie Garza.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
