DIONICIO ‘NICHO’ OZUNA

EDINBURG — Dionicio “Nicho” Ozuna, 71, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home. He was born October 9, 1951, in Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, Tamaulipas, Mexico. In 1966, Nicho’s father made the decision to migrate the family to the United States and settled in the small town of Lasara, TX. In 1968, the Ozunas relocated to Edinburg, TX where they still live to this day. From 1967 to 1976, Nicho along with his parents, sisters, tios, tias and primos migrated to the fields of California to work as migrant farm workers. This is where Nicho learned the trade of harvesting crops that led him to start his own watermelon harvesting business alongside his father. The true source of joy for Nicho was spending time with his grandkids and family. His love and joking sense of humor will be greatly missed but will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Estanislao and Sara Osuna. He is survived by his daughter Yvette (Roel) Alonzo, his son Jesus “Jesse” (Valerie) Ozuna; his grandchildren, Valeria Alonzo, Noah Alonzo, Ethan Alonzo, Elise Ozuna, and Elena Ozuna; his sisters Maurelina (Juventino) Osuna, Pola (Jorge) Moreno, Gela (Ramiro) Alonzo, Janie (Francisco) Melendez, and Fifi (Jose) Acevedo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Ozuna family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the DHR Hospice team that provided such great care and support during the final months of their dad’s life. A special thank you to Mr. Ramon Gomez who undoubtedly made the last few months so easy for our dad and family.

Visitation was held at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral service take place Monday, July 10, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
