JOSE HERBERT FLORES, III

The Flores family announces the death of Jose Herbert Flores III, 70, “Chief Flores” from San Juan, who passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at McAllen Medical Center.

Mr. Flores served seven years in the United States Army in which he was deployed to Korea and Vietnam. He served the public as a law enforcement officer in various police departments throughout the Rio Grande Valley holding various positions including Chief of Police. He began his law enforcement career in Port Isabel followed by South Padre Island Police Department, Hidalgo Police Department, Mercedes Police Department, and Cameron County Constable Office Pct 7. Mr. Flores was also a licensed polygraph examiner, a skill he used to assist many law enforcement agencies, correction facilities, and the public.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Landeros Flores Jr., and Balvina Herbert Pena.

Mr. Flores is survived by his wife, Irma Balderas Flores; three children; Jose Balderas (Susan Andaverde) Flores IV, Rosa Isela Flores (David) Guajardo, Rita Isabel Balderas Flores (Suk) Szeto; five grandchildren; six siblings, Isabel Halamandaris, Lupita Reyna, Linda Villarreal, Daniel Flores, Jesus Flores, and Antonio Flores.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary, Monday, January 16, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 11 a.m. Tuesday January 17, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment followed at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors were conducted by VFW Post 7473 of Elsa.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
