Stephen Whitehouse, 69, of Pharr, TX, formerly of Davenport, IA; passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral service was held at Weerts Funeral Home on Saturday, June 20, 2020. Visitation was held on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 4-7 pm at Weerts Funeral Home. Burial was at Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorials in Stephen’s name may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital. There was a luncheon at the Elks Lodge, 4400 W Central Park Ave, Davenport, IA 52804, on Saturday, June 20th.
Harlingen - Bobby Morrow, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 30, 2020 in Harlingen, TX with his family by his side. Bobby was born on October 15, 1935 in Rangerville, TX to the late B.F. and Mattie Lucille Morrow where he grew up farming and chasing down jack rabbits.
EDINBURG - Ricardo (Rick) Alvarado Jr., 59, loving father, husband, stepfather, brother, uncle and friend, entered enteral rest on Saturday, May 9, 2020, after a brief and sudden illness unrelated to Covid-19. Rick will always be remembered as a source of strength, laughter, and inspiration, filled with love for his family, friends, pets, and the Texas Longhorns.
You see that picture of me that accompanies this column? I’m only about two-and-a-half years old (the photo doesn’t record the date it was taken), by my estimate, but already I don’t look very happy. Little did I know what was coming up around the bend. In fact, just this Tuesday, I was bowled over by the news that a good friend of mine, Rick, had passed away this past Saturday; and I was already depressed. I’m not going to list his full name, because I don’t yet have the death notice, and I have failed to get in touch with his family; but what a kind and decent guy he was, so full of life. Such a decent human being.
