Hamas’ Many Enemies: Although cease-fire underway, stability still rocky
There has been no disarmament. When Hamas began digging up bodies to return them to Israel, it also started creating new bodies using it’s generous supply of AK-47s.
Palestinians likely to make up the new government were target number one. Since Hamas wants to continue controlling the region, it concluded such prominent Gazans had to die. They could be and were accused of collaborating with Israel. Hamas went on a bender executing those folks in public. There are also a number of terrorist groups in Gaza. Hamas’ terror arm, the Al-Qassam Brigades consists of around 30,000 militants and is the chief among the groups. It possesses drones, rockets, and an assortment of other lethal weapons. It lead the October attack on Israel. It’s commander, Mohammed Deif, is at the top of Israel’s wanted list.
The Islamic Jihad’s Al-Quds Brigades is the second largest militant group in Gaza (as well as being active in the West Bank). It is funded by Iran and is closely tied to them as well as to the Lebanese Hezbollah. It is made up of some 11,000 fighters, has dug a network of tunnels and possesses a large number of missiles capable of striking Israel.
The Popular Resistance Committee’s Al-Nasser Brigades has several thousand members and is believed to be the third largest militant group in Gaza. It owns a large number of mortar shells, as well as dozens of rockets. It includes fighters in the Fatah Movement which opposed the Oslo Accords and orchestrated a number of attacks against Israel.
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, founded in the year 2000, has been largely absorbed by the Palestinian Authority. Some members, however, refused to make the switch and still retain membership in the original group (even though they have been attacked in the West Bank by security forces of the Palesinian authority).
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine also has a militant arm. It is known as the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades. The Popular Front is best remembered for it’s hijacking of an airliner which was diverted to Entebbe International Airport where Israel conducted a successful rescue which nevertheless resulted in the death of Israel’s current prime minister’s older brother, Yonatan “Yoni” Netanyahu.
Hamas views all the smaller militant groups as unwanted rivals. It plans to come out on top in the rebuilt Gaza, so it has gone to war against its rivals. Israel has chosen to ignore these turf wars since it considers the death of any terrorist of any militant group a positive. There has been a lot of death dealing since Hamas signed off on its peace treaty.
Hamas, of course, has two other enemies. One is Israel. The second is Hamas itself.
In order to survive, Hamas must adhere to the peace treaty with Israel. However, it can’t seem to help itself. It has begun sniping and shooting mortars at Israel. It has broken the treaty. Israel is retaliating. If the fight continues, Hamas will ultimately cease to exist. Its plans to hide some weapons in caves and pretend to disarm won’t happen if it keeps shooting Israelis. If more Israelis die, Trump will not restrain Israel. Neither will the prospect of retrieving the few remaining dead bodies. Israel will annihilate Hamas.
Meanwhile, all the Arab states which have joined together with Trump and Israel to broker the cease fire will sit back and watch Hamas’ destruction. They are siding with Trump. Saudi Arabia has even decided to join the Abraham Accords. Hamas’ only friend is Iran, and Iran has its own problems.
Editor’s note: As of press time, it has been reported that there is currently a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. However, it is reported that there is instability regarding it in relation to clashes and violations. A peace deal has not been solidified as of yet.
