Pharr opens two sandbag distribution sites

PHARR — The City of Pharr has opened two self-serve sandbag distribution sites Monday, Aug. 21,  that will be open until 8 p.m. to help residents prepare for anticipated weather conditions.

The two sites are the Pharr EMS Headquarters — located at 3000 North Cage — and the Pharr Development and Research Center, which is located at 850 W. Dicker Rd. in Pharr. 

City residents are eligible to receive up to six sandbags per household and businesses within the city can obtain up to 12, according to a release. Proof of residence is required for sandbag pickup. In addition, residents can bring their water bill or a driver's license as proof of address.
The distribution sites will be self-serve. Bags, sand, and shovels will be provided on-site for convenience.

"The City of Pharr encourages all residents and businesses to take advantage of this sandbag distribution," the release said. "Properly placed sandbags can play a crucial role in preventing flooding and safeguarding properties during inclement weather."
