Bulldozing Bulldogs: McHi continues unstoppable onslaught against PSJA

PHARR — The McHi Bulldogs (3-0) continue to blank opponents as they won, 35-0, against the PSJA Bears (1-2) on Thursday.

This is the third win in a row and not only that, this is the third straight victory against a 6A-caliber school. The first and second being Economedes and Edinburg North.

McHi is doing some pretty impressive things this season, if the wins aren't enough, they also haven't allowed any points yet. 

The Bulldogs have garnered 136 points this season so far and have allowed zero.

In the first quarter, the Bulldogs' special teams blocked Ricardo Gonzalez's punt for a score in the end zone. McHi's Jesus Rocha scrambled to the ball to make it 7-0 Bulldogs.

If you were a PSJA fan, you were probably hoping that the Bulldogs wouldn't put up 14 or more points in the first, as they are able to do with ease. The Bears did a decent job at keeping their poise and hanging in there with the Bulldogs.

But then the second quarter happened.

After a stop by the Bears' defense, on their own 10-yard line, Gael Zambrano had a botched handoff to Grayson Cabrera to make it 14-0.

On the next drive, it looked like Zambrano found his retribution as he found Isaiah Garza on a 45-yard pass to bring some morale to the Bears. 

On McHi's 20-yard line, Zambrano scrambled to the left and shot it to the endzone to Jonathan Sauceda — only to be picked off by Diego De Lizardi.

With less than two minutes to go in the quarter, McHi's Luke Laurel — the quarterback who stands at about 6 foot 3 inches — threw a sprial to Brodyn Santos right across the middle of the secondary for a 27-yard touchdown.

It was 21-0 at the half.

In the third, Laurel added to his touchdown statline as he found Ethan Shelby on a quick pass to make it a 28-0 game.

Late in the fourth, with less than four minutes to go, Laurel got his third touchdown of the game with another 20-yard touchdown pass to Santos.

Laurel, who has emerged as one of the top QBs in the region, now has 12 touchdowns on the season and district hasn't even started yet.

Next week, McHi takes on crosstown rival McAllen Memorial on Friday at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

PSJA looks to bounce back against the Redskins in Donna on the same day, same time.
