PSJA Bears sweep Dripping Springs to advance to Final Four
The PSJA Bears are still in the hunt for a state championship as they swept the Dripping Springs Tigers, 4-2, at Calallen High School in Corpus Christi.
Game 1 was won on Thursday by the score of 3-2; the dub on Friday took the series.
Emma Escamilla, the pitching ace for the Bears, had herself a game with six strikeouts in seven innings. Escamilla also showed prowess on the offensive end of things as she had a solo home run at the bottom of the second.
The Arizona State commit played the entirety of Game 1 as well. Dripping Springs used two pitchers to try to hold off the Bears.
The San Juan squad is now in the Regional Finals — aka the Final Four or more easily known as the state semi-finals.
If those terms confuse you, the state semi-finals is the series before the state series if the Bears win the next round.
Who are they playing you might ask?
The name drawn is the Katy Tigers, who swept the Clear Creek Wildcats on Friday with a 5-4 win.
Are they any good?
They're a pretty solid team as they haven't lost a playoff game this tournament. Just like the Battlin' Bears, they are a perfect 8-0. So, in the upcoming series, someone is taking home two losses.
The Tigers, similar to the Bears as well, also have established a winning tradition at their school. In 2019, they were the state champions.
