Road woes: UTRGV suffers loss against Stephen F. Austin

Struggles on the road continue for the UTRGV Vaqueros (6-2, 2-3) as they suffered a loss to nationally ranked Stephen F. Austin (7-2, 5-0) this past Saturday, 41-17.

The Lumberjacks — who are ranked No. 23 in the nation — built themselves a comfortable lead by the end of the first half by being up 27-0.

The purple squad were able to put the game away on all fronts as they racked up 448 yards of total offense on the night. More so, their defense was quite impressive as they held the Vaqueros to only two TDs on the night. One was a rushing TD from Aidan Jakobsohn and the other was a twoyard score from receiver Tony Diaz.

Eddie Lee Marburger had a tough time against the Lumberjacks as he threw two interceptions and was sacked once.

For Stephen F. Austin, QB Sam Vidlak had a field day throwing 25-32 on the night for 203 yards. He was sacked once by the UTRGV Vaqueros, but that didn’t phase the two TDs that he threw.

The Vaqueros have three games left to go in the season. This Saturday, the orange squad will return home as they take on Nicholls State University (3-6, 3-2) in Edinburg at 5 p.m.
