Spurs down Thunder to advance to NBA Finals
For the first time in 12 years, the San Antonio Spurs are making their trip into familiar territory as they defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games during the Western Conference Finals.
The series with the Thunder was full of grit and grind to say the least as a newfound rivalry was sparked between the two squads. The Thunder, who won last year’s championship, lost to the Spurs over at their house on Saturday by the score of 111-103.
In an unanimous manner, Victor Wembanyama — the young, towering star for the Spurs — was named the Western Conference Finals Most Valuable Player, according to NBA.com.
“Wemby” averaged 27.3 points per contest, 10.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 assists, 1.4 steals, and also 2.7 blocks in the series against the Thunder, according to the league.
Over on the East side of the NBA playoffs, the Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers with ease as New York won each game by double digits.
Similar to the Spurs’ leader, Jalen Brunson was unanimously named the ECF’s MVP as he averaged 25.5 points and 7.8 assists per game against the Cavs, according to NBA.com.
The first game for The Finals will be today at 7:30 p.m. in San Antonio. Game 2 will be Friday at the same time. Games 3 and 4 will be Monday and next Wednesday.
