Spurs Star Wembanyama expected to miss rest of season
Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio phenom for the NBA organization, is expected to miss the rest of the regular season.
The team took to social media on Thursday to announce that the all-star was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in Wembanyama's right shoulder.
"The condition was discovered when Wembanyama returned to San Antonio following the All-Star Game in San Francisco," the team said in an injury update. "The team will provide updates as appropriate."
According to Mayo Clinic, deep vein thrombosis occurs when a blood clot forms in one ore more of the deep veins within the body. The Clinic states that it usually happens in the leg — which causes pain and swelling.
Wembanyama — or more commonly referred to as "Wemby" — has displayed an impressive performance in his second season for the Spurs. The NBA All-Star Weekend recently finished, in which the 21-year-old player competed in his first all-star game.
The towering statline was averaging about 24.3 points a game, along with 11 rebounds a game (ESPN.com).
Sitting at the 12th seed in the West, the playoff hopes for the Spurs and its fans are filled with uncertainty.
They play the Phoenix Suns today, Feb. 20, in San Antonio.
