Two players from RGV Vipers earn league recognitions
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers had two players of their own earn All NBAG League Recognitions. Tristen Newton and Daishen Nix were named to the league’s first and third teams, respectively. The recognition goes to players who excelled on the court and put up remarkable stats across the board.
Newton put up some impressive numbers this season as he played not only for the Vipers, but as well as the Iowa Wolves and the Houston Rockets. In 49 games for the Vipers and Wolves, he averaged 25.8 points a game. Also, the University of Connecticut product also grabbed 5.1 boards a game, as well as 5.5 assists and 1.9 steals per contest.
More so, Newton was ranked third in the league for points. During the G League Playoffs, he had 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals in the two games played against the Austin Spurs and South Bay Lakers.
As for Nix, he averaged 22.4 points a game, while grabbing 7.2 rebounds, 7 assists and 2.5 steals per game for the Vipers in 49 games.
This season was Nix’s second stint with the Vipers, the first was back in the 2021-2022 campaign. The guard finished 12 in the league in assists.
During the playoffs, he averaged 34.5 points a game, while grabbing 8.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.5 steals across two games. More so, he averaged 42.7 minutes per game. Each contest has 48 total minutes.
