UTRGV gets bounced by Baylor in season opener
The UTRGV Vaqueros fell (0-1) to the Baylor Bears (1-0) in their season opener on Monday by the score of 96-81.
The Bears — who are coming off a decent 20-15 season last year — looked to be in trouble against the orange squad as they found themselves down 9-0 within the first 3 minutes of play in Waco.
Filip Brankovic had the first 7 points for the Vaqueros as he started the run off a defensive rebound and a three points, which was followed by a layup in the paint and a jumper.
However, after that, it was all business by the Bears.
Cameron Carr led the game with 28 points of his own. He was accompanied by Tounde Yessoufou, who had 24 of his own. In addition, Obi Agbim and Dan Skillings Jr. had 16 and 15 points, respectively for Baylor.
For UTRGV, Marvin McGhee III led the offensive fray with 16 points and Brankovic had himself 14 on the night.
Baylor though looked like they couldn’t miss as they put up a near 100 points.
The Big 12 squad shot 48.57% in the first half and then 50% in the second. For UTRGV, shot selection was on point for them as they shot 30-61 (49.2%) on the night. The main ailment for them this game was the defensive effort.
