UTRGV tacks on another victory for win column
The UTRGV Vaqueros (73, 3-3) have been pretty good at bouncing back whenever they endure a loss during the season.
After last week’s away loss to Stephen F. Austin, the Vaqueros came back home to host Nicholls State (3-7, 3-3) and took the dub, 28-21.
Both teams were neck to neck during this Southland Conference matchup as the squads each had over 300 yards of total offense on the night.
The Colonels had 327 yards, while the Vaqueros led the way with 392. One of the crucial components for UTRGV’s win was the two forced turnovers. Defense was critical as although Nicholls State had the ball for about five minutes more than UTRGV, uncapitalized possession ailed them.
Defensive back TJ Neal led the squad with 10 total tackles, followed by Spencer Rich with 7. On the offensive front, Nathan Denney carried the ball 25 times for 120 yards and 2 TDs.
The UTRGV Vaqueros have two games left on the season. This Saturday, they have an away game against McNeese State (4-6, 3-3).
