Viper player Yurtseven gets called up to NBA

Another player from the RGV Vipers is officially going to have a chance to play in the big leagues.

Ömer Yurtseven got the call up to the NBA as the Golden State Warriors announced Sunday that the team has signed him to a 10-day contract.

The former Georgetown Hoya excelled on the court as in three games with the Vipers, he recorded three consecutive double-doubles. In the third game for the Vipers, Yurtseven’s stat sheet was admirable as he recorded 36 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks — while shooting 71% from the field.

In three games, he averaged 23 points, 13.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

“I knew when we got him that there’s a very good chance that he’s going to play his way out of here,” Head Coach Joseph Blair said. “I’m happy to be part of the process.”

Yurtseven, who is a Turkish player from Uzbekistan, has had previous experience in the NBA. In 2023-2024, he played with the Utah Jazz. Prior to that during the 2021-2023 campaigns, he played in 65 games with the Miami Heat.

This marks the second player this season from the Vipers to get called up to the NBA. The first player was Tyler Smith — who signed a two-way contract back in the beginning of March with the Dallas Mavericks.
