 THURSDAY 9-24-2020

EDINBURG Another 25 people in Hidalgo County died from COVID-19 related complications while 164 new positive cases were logged, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Wednesday.

“The death toll continues and so does the tragedy of this disease,” Judge Cortez said. “Unfortunately, we are seeing younger people dying from this virus. This is a real threat that we can survive as long as we take the proper precautions. Evidence shows that it can kill any person of any age. I extend my condolences to the family and friends of those who have perished.”

The additional known positive cases bring the total number of COVID-19 cases in Hidalgo County to 31,162. The additional deaths bring the total number of COVID-related deaths locally to 1,588. There are 179 people being treated in local hospitals; 62 of those patients are in intensive care units.
