Twenty more people die from complications of COVID-19 while 325 more test positive in Hidalgo County

 THURSDAY, 9-17-2020

EDINBURG — An unexpected surge of new cases has taken the number of those testing positive in Hidalgo County beyond the 30,000 mark, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Wednesday. This comes as 20 more people died from complications of COVID-19.

“I have been encouraged by the direction of the numbers this week, but this jump in the number of new cases is concerning,” Judge Cortez said. “The bottom line is we must remain diligent about the dangers of this virus. And we all should consider any additional deaths from this disease tragic. My condolences go out to the family and friends of these victims.”

The latest case totals bring the count of people in the county who have died from this disease to 1,470. The total number of people who have knowingly contracted the disease in Hidalgo County now stands at 30,046.
