Food Bank RGV joins Stamp Out Hunger drive effort
The growing fight against hunger is alive and well. More so on Saturday as Food Bank RGV asks for the public’s assistance in donating goods.
Saturday will be the 33rd annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive that is hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers. The nationwide event is the largest one-day food drive in the nation, according to a Food Bank RGV release.
Food Bank RGV said it encourages the public to donate non-perishable food items on Saturday to help with the cause.
How can one help?
According to the release, local letter carriers had distributed brown paper bags to households in Brownsville, Donna, Edinburg, Hidalgo, McAllen, San Juan and Weslaco. Those with the bags are to fill them up with non-perishable food and leave the bag by the mailbox before 9 a.m. That way, letter carriers will collect the donations and deliver them to Food Bank RGV.
What if you don’t have the brown bag?
Those who didn’t receive the official brown bag can still fill any bag with non-perishable food and place it by their mailbox before 9 a.m. on Saturday.
If you’re in a non-participating city, one can still drop off donations at the Food Bank RGV — located at 724 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr.
“Each donation plays a key role in addressing hunger across the Rio Grande Valley,” the local food bank said in a release.
