The old Palwaukee Municipal Airport just north of Chicago’s O’Hare Airport was a gem of a place in the late 1970s.On the north side of the Windy City (nickname actually given to describe the city’s blowhard politicians, not the stout wind off of Lake Michigan), Palwaukee had a flight school going gangbusters – the cost to take lessons in a Cessna 150 was $22 per hour wet (gas included), and $10 for the flight instructor (out of which we received between $4 and $6 per hour, based on how many hours we flew per month).Palwaukee was also chalk full of ...
