Vanguard Academy was awarded the Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) grant through the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), worth $1,283,200 for new technology devices for students. The ECF provides funding to help students and teachers get the technology tools needed to connect to a virtual classroom.

Since I first became a pilot in 1976, I’ve taken notice of the occasional story that will pop up in which this sort of scenario unfolds: A 65-year-old man piloting a Cessna 182 suddenly has a heart attack, dies, and the wife sitting beside him in the co-pilot’s seat doesn’t know how to land. Amazingly, a pilot on the ground, with the help of an air traffic controller, somehow talks her through the process of getting the plane safely back on the ground.
