Ribbon-cutting for Trooper Moises Sanchez Blvd. Wednesday Oct. 30

EDINBURG – Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner Ellie Torres in conjunction with the City of Edinburg will hold a ribbon-cutting and unveil the new street sign designating a portion of N. 10th Street as Trooper Moises Sanchez Blvd. at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the corner of 10th Street and Hwy 107 in Edinburg. The 10th Street expansion was a vision of former Precinct 4 Commissioner Oscar Garza as a project that would open the way for commuters to have access to the growing economy of the northern part of Hidalgo County. The project was then later revived by Precinct 4 Commissioner Joseph Palacios and was recently completed. This project was funded via federal dollars through the former Hidalgo County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and through local Hidalgo County and City of Edinburg funds. On October 8, the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court unanimously passed a resolution in support of the re-naming. Immediately following the ceremony, the family of the fallen Trooper will be the first to drive along the newly renamed boulevard with an escort comprised of law enforcement, including DPS, Hidalgo County Sheriff, and Edinburg Police Department. “I am grateful for the vision and forward thinking of my Precinct 4 predecessors and I am now proud to work with the City to provide better access and safety for our citizens. Additionally, Hidalgo County is proud to be able to have made this humble gesture in honor of Trooper Sanchez,” said Torres. “However, I also see it as a tribute to not just one, but all of our law enforcement heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice in securing our safety.” For more information or questions on this or other Precinct 4 projects, please contact Commissioner Ellie Torres’ office at (956) 383-3112.
