Chapter 6 of John’s Gospel contains what’s known as Jesus’ Bread of Life discourse. In verse 35, Jesus says, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.” Jesus’ statement that he is the bread of life to the crowd that had followed him from the place where he fed 5,000 men with only five loaves of bread and two fishes was neither received well, nor understood.
