CBP Officers at the Rio Grande City seize narcotics worth over $324,000

RIO GRANDE CITY – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Starr-Camargo International Bridge seized various types of narcotics in separate unrelated incidents that had a combined total value of over $324,000. “Our officers have seized multiple several narcotics loads these past few days demonstrating their commitment to vigilance and to the service of their country,” said Port Director Imelda Recio, Rio Grande City Port of Entry. The first seizure took place on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Starr-Camargo International Bridge when a 38-yearold male Mexican citizen applied for entry into the United States driving via the commercial import lot. The tractor trailer was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection. In secondary, CBP officers discovered 12 packages concealed within the tractor trailer. CBP officers removed the packages, which contained a total of 30.73 pounds of alleged cocaine. The second seizure took place on Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Starr-Camargo International Bridge when a 26-year-old female United States citizen applied for entry into the United States as the driver of a 2017 GMC Terrain. The vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection. In secondary, CBP officers discovered a total of 4.76 pounds of alleged cocaine concealed within cookie boxes and 2.73 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed on subject’s body. The estimated street value of the narcotics from the seizures is approximately $324,000. CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver and turned them over to local authorities for further investigation.
