Comptroller Glenn Hegar distributes $783 million in monthly sales tax revenue to local governments
AUSTIN - T e x a s Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $783.2 million in local sales tax allocations for January, 2.6 percent more than in January 2020. These allocations are based on sales made in November by businesses that report tax monthly. And in case you're interested in how other Texas cities compared for the same reporting period, January 2020 vs. January 2021, Austin was down 1.87 percent, Brownsville up 15.68 percent, Dallas down 6.71 percent, El Paso up 1.42 percent, Houston down 4.12 percent, Laredo down 3.77 percent, and San Antonio up 1.52 percent.
