EDINBURG –Hidalgo County Tax Offices have made operational changes due to COVID-19. All county tax offices will rotate availability bi-weekly. Operating hours will be Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. “We care about the safety of our customers and our team so our offices’ availability will be modified to the schedule as seen below,” said Hidalgo County Tax Assessor and Collector Pablo (Paul) Villarreal Jr. To renew vehicle registration, apply for a disabled placard, purchase a temporary permit, or pay property taxes please visit any of the locations in Edinburg, Weslaco, Mission, McAllen, Pharr, Alamo, Elsa, or San Juan. “The State of Texas has provided deadline extensions on motor vehicle transactions for 60 days,” said Villarreal “You should not receive a ticket for driving with expired registration or pay penalties for failure to transfer a vehicle you purchased for 60 days.” At this time residents are encouraged to use the alternative payments methods that are available to the public.
