The five candidates running for mayor of McAllen spent about $374,000 from January to March, according to campaign finance reports filed with the City Secretary’s Office on April 1.
Dr. Shahid Rashid spent nearly $110,000. Businessman Michael Fallek spent nearly $96,000. City Commissioner Javier Villalobos spent nearly $70,000. City Commissioner Veronica Vela Whitacre spent about $56,000. And businessman Othal E. Brand Jr., the son of former Mayor Othal Brand Sr., spent about $42,000.
They’re running to replace Mayor Jim Darling, who decided not to seek a third term.
