McAllen City Commission tables the renewal of $60,000 contract with McGuireWoods Consulting

The McAllen City Commission on Monday, June 22, 2020, delayed taking action, for at least one month, on the renewal of its existing $60,000 contract with McGuireWoods Consulting, LLC, which represents the City of McAllen before the Texas Legislature, until the local elected leaders receive and review an update on what that firm accomplished during the past year. The firm, which has an office in Austin, will continue to represent the city’s legislative interests at the Texas Capitol during the extension period, the mayor and city commissioners also unanimously agreed. “We will probably have them at one of our work sessions before the next (city commission) meeting or two,” Mayor Jim Darling said after the city council session. McGuireWoods Consulting, LLC provided legislative consulting services during the 86th Texas Legislature, which took place from January 2019 through May 2019. In addition to representing the city before the Texas Legislature, the firm also proposes to work on behalf of the McAllen City Commission before the state’s executive branch featuring the governor and lt. governor, and major state agencies, boards, and commissions. Their most recent proposal was one of numerous and unrelated items discussed by the McAllen City Commission during its twice-a-month regular meeting at McAllen City Hall. The Texas Legislature returns to work at the Texas Capitol in Austin for its fivemonth regular session, which begins on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, and ends on Monday, May 31, 2021.
