In a bid to boost transparency, the city of McAllen may start broadcasting City Commission workshops.
McAllen already records and broadcasts City Commission meetings. Many of the most important discussions, however, happen at workshops — where the City Commission frequently makes big decisions by consensus rather than by voting.
“For a while, we’ve been talking about the fact that we don’t go live with workshops,” City Manager Roy Rodriguez said Monday. “And, in fact, until recently, we didn’t record them.”
While workshops are open to the public, McAllen holds them at 4 p.m. on Mondays. They rarely draw a crowd.
