Editor’s note: Usually, I wouldn’t place this story, as good as it is, on the front page above the fold, but I’m coming off of a sick week, and the number of original local-news stories in this issue are way down from the norm. That being said, this story fell into my lap by accident, and I thought, what the hell, with all of the misery around us these days, why not put a feelgood baseball story on the front page, and if some readers don’t like it, sorry.
