At the Toastmasters International Convention held at the Gaylord Rockies Convention Center in Aurora, Colorado, on August 24, 2019, Toastmaster, Luisa Montalvo of San Juan, Texas was first runner-up in the Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking. It has never happened before that a Toastmaster from the Rio Grande Valley placed in this prestigious event. The Toastmasters International Speech Contest began in 1938 and is the world’s largest speech contest, this year involving 30,000 participants from 143 countries.
