PSJA ISD forms own police department

The PSJA ISD Board of Trustees voted 4-3 Monday to name San Juan police officer Rolando “Rollie” Garcia as the district’s new police chief after the board voted 7-0 last December to create its own police department.
The Advance is in the process now of getting a complete list of job applicants of which there were approximately seven.
Before Garcia assumes his new duties as police chief, however, the district must first file the proper paperwork needed to form its own police department with state authorities. How long that will take to process isn’t yet clear. In the meantime, Garcia may begin work with the district in some related capacity, helping fill out the paperwork necessary to form a district for example, getting all the I’s dotted and the T’s crossed. That job just won’t carry with it the title of police chief.
