Before a crowded room of elected officials from throughout the state, including a strong delegation of elected officials from the Rio Grande Valley, Texas Transportation Commission commenced one of its most important meetings on Thursday, August 28, 2019. Tasked with providing a 10-year plan for transportation and infrastructure projects for roadways throughout Texas, the Commission unanimously approved $77 billion in funding over the next decade for its 2020 Unified Transportation Program (UTP), which for the first time, included funding for the newly formed Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization, now the fifth-largest MPO in the state.
