Trump’s TV Boast; Is Biden Demented?
What we’re going through now reminds me of 9-11 and its aftermath, which includes the invasion of Iraq. Lot of people made money from that, and a lot of soldiers lost their lives. Yet, today, W is considered a statesman even though I consider him to be a war criminal. Cheney, too. All of Bush’s inner circle and corporate war-profiteers. Now, Trump is doing the same thing Bush did: doing things that make no sense to anyone with a thinking brain.
Last week, after one of the president’s daily press conferences, which has become a study in narcissism and kiddy tirades, Trump sounded ecstatic that the TV viewers for his press conferences were higher than some other shows. From one of his tweets: “Because the ‘Ratings’ of my News Conferences etc. are so high, ‘Bachelor finale, Monday Night Football type numbers’ according to the @nytimes, the Lamestream Media is going CRAZY. ‘Trump is reaching too many people, we must stop him.’ said one lunatic. See you at 5:00 P.M.!” That was one of the president's very own tweets.
In a nation facing the crisis we’re facing, do we want our president to sound like a guy focused on TV ratings? I don’t. Not from a guy who described news journalists as the “enemy of the people.”
Who is there facing him in the November election? Meaning, he’ll probably get re-elected. Presumably his opponent will be Joe Biden, who has trouble remembering his first name is Joe. He’s the same guy who said this during a public gathering last month in South Carolina, when public gatherings were still possible: “I’m a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate. Look me over. If you like what you see, help me out; if not, you can vote for the other Biden. Give me a look, though.”
Geez, Joe, I am looking at you, and I don’t like what I see. During a speech last month, Biden gave us his inside look at the U.S. Constitution: “We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women are created, by the, you know, you know the thing.”
Joe, the “Thing” in that context is God. Okay, I’ll toss you another beer, but this is your last.
On the home front, more people are covering their faces and noses when they go out in public. So far, and there are more now, the cities of Mission, Edinburg, and Elsa have passed new emergency declarations requiring face masks when venturing out in public. That policy may soon go countywide.
If you haven’t yet taken the time to see how and why this coronavirus kills people (severe pneumonia in most cases), and you’re still not treating SARS-CoV-2 (novel “new” coronavirus) with enough respect, there are plenty of vids on Youtube, recorded by medical doctors that lay it out pretty well. It’s not a pleasant way to go, for either patients or their family members who can’t even gather at their loved one’s bedside during their final days due to the quarantines in place around such patients.
The sickest I ever got in my life was when I got hit with pneumonia when I was 21. Mother was an RN, so she cared for me. I sweated the sheets so much, she had to change them a lot. I remember how I felt when I must have first caught the bug (either a virus or bacteria), and something immediately told me that I was about to come down with some serious $#@*. After the infection was over, I still coughed – serious cough – for about a month. Today, one of my lungs still carries the scar. If the body can’t successfully fight off the infection, the lungs will fill with all sorts of vile liquid, and you’ll basically suffocate by drowning. Meanwhile, your other organs start to fail because they’re not receiving sufficient oxygen to keep the body going. Fun trip. Not.
So, if you know how fast this virus spreads – there were 36 cases of COVID-19 last Tuesday (March 31); April 7, there are 99. Meaning, approximately a 300-percent increase in only seven days. That’s with social distancing and closure of bars and restaurants in effect. What would it be without them?
Yet, I still run into people, friends, who say that this virus will be a thing of the past come May, or June, and our local economy will be back in full swing. I think, how is that going to work, exactly? Will the SARS-CoV-2 (novel coronavirus) collectively think, “Hey, let’s all disappear tomorrow,” and it will be gone from the planet? Does anyone think that the federal government is capable of testing everyone in the country and segregating those infected? The fed government has so far proven to be incompetent handling this crisis. Administrations before Trump’s are also to blame. In fact, the state we’re in can be laid at the feet of the White House and U.S. Congress going back to the first SARS outbreak in 2002. They were warned repeatedly that this might one day happen, but did nothing. Bombing Afgahnis was more important. Invading Iraq. Killing Gaddafi, more important.
On a local front, more cities are getting in sync with county officials to try and mitigate the spread of the virus in Hidalgo County. Good for those elected officials and county officials stepping up to the plate.
Also, thanks to local grocers for keeping us in stock of food and other provisions. The people who work there deserve our thanks.
Jan's Note: Our government has com
Our government has completely failed American citizens. I saw this coming in January. The political halfwits comments? "It's a hoax." "It's political to get Trump out of office." You were all very very wrong and very very stupid!
We now have three political parties:
Guess who the winner will be!!!
The Pentagon can request 100,000 body bags for American citizens, but do nothing to provide the medical community with necessary medical equipment. It's all manufactured in CHINA!!! All medical personnel on the front lines trying to desperately save your lives are short on N95 masks made in CHINA!!!!
Get one of so many empty manufacturing plants up and running ASAP to produce the equipment so desperately needed by doctors, nurses, first responders, police, firemen. Equipment needed here as well as jobs that will boost the economy HERE, for a change.
The "philanthropists" like Bill Gates (just one example) who made his fortune by outsourcing every single thing he produced can step up to the plate and spend some of his billions on creating jobs and equipment here where it should have stayed. He sure can't take those billions with him, so he and all the others just like him should actually help the American people.
Germany is impressive. Two months ago, they saw the handwriting on the wall and implemented safety protocols that we ignored. Our failure of a governing body wasn't that smart, or they were just plain arrogant. I rather believe its a combination of both.
Again, would someone PLEASE close that tweeting twit's Twitter account!!!!!
